Frequently Asked Questions
The laser kills the fungus that lives under the nail by heating the nail. The laser light passes through the toenail without causing any damage to the nail or the surrounding skin. At the time of the procedure, the toenail will not become instantly clear and takes 3–6 months to become completely clear.
Laser nail therapy is a painless procedure. Some patients report mild warming sensations or a pinprick at the site of the laser application.
You will be able to resume your daily activities immediately after the procedure. We ask to keep the nails clean and dry for at least 8 weeks.
The entire procedure takes less than 45 minutes.
The fungus is killed after one treatment. However, there is a chance of re-infection if there is fungus still present in your environment. Therefore we recommend using a topical anti-fungal solution to prevent reinfection.
Although significant improvement occurs after a single session, we recommend 1–2 sessions. These additional sessions will prevent further progression of fungal infection if fungal spores remain.
